Gout is is a form of inflammatory arthritis, characterized by recurrent attacks of a red, tender, hot, and swollen join. It is often described as irritant arthritis that occurs periodically, causing redness, softness, heat and swelling of the joints. Severe pain usually attack within twelve hours. About half of the cases affect the metatarsal-phalangeal joint . Gout can also cause tophus( a deposit of monosodium urate crystals), kidney stones, or acute uric acid nephropathy, which combines daily diet and genetic factors.
